What key skills or background experience to communicate to the rDVM community?

I completed a preceptorship in ER medicine before graduating and worked for two years in a rural ER/GP practice. During that time, I gained experience handling emergency cases with limited resources and minimal access to specialized tools. I am currently working on obtaining my ABPV certification.

What is most important for RDVMs to know about before transferring a patient to you?

I will discuss the estimated cost of ER and specialty care before making referrals. This helps primary care providers and clients work together to ensure that patients receive the standard of care within the owner's budget. Additionally, ER doctors are always happy to offer guidance to primary care on challenging cases, whether it's for referral or treatment advice if a referral isn't possible.

Do you have any specific preferences about how you receive transfers from rDVMs?

I complete medical records detailing the main reason for referral, along with a treatment sheet if the patient was hospitalized or information on medication administration times at primary care. If the patient requires stabilization, I ensure it's done appropriately, and ER doctors are always available to guide primary care veterinarians with any specific questions they may have regarding a case.

Do you have any clinical interests or medical topics that you would like to write about?

I am currently working on my ABPV certification. I really enjoy handling classical ER cases, such as AHDS, critically blocked cats, GIFBO, anaphylaxis, snake bites, and wound care.

What are your unique abilities or passions?

I love ER medicine and everything that comes with it. I find difficult medical cases rewarding, even when they are challenging. I also enjoy communicating with primary care doctors, especially when they need advice on how to manage a case when a referral isn't an option for the owner. I'm well-versed in performing ultrasound FAST scans as well.

How is your service impactful to your rDVMs, their clients, and patients?

I provide overnight care for clients and their patients, answering questions or offering guidance on difficult cases. I also ensure detailed medical records and treatment sheets are completed after discharge or transfer, to maintain continuity of care.
